We seem to be getting weather that’s a bit more favourable and over the weekend for a change. Boat ramps have been fairly busy and catches have been good. Tuna look to have gone on holidays at Port Lincoln and Coffin Bay but there’s plenty of other fish and Crabs are really starting to get active from many areas.
Here’s what has been biting over the past week.

Salmon are randomly showing up at most good surf beaches in the area, they can be there one day and gone the next, but that’s Salmon fishing, some of the Salmon are good ones to 3.5kg but most are smaller averaging 2kg. Sharks are good at Talia Beach with Gummies and Bronze Whalers quite consistent. There’s a few Flathead here and also at Walkers Rock and some area decent size to 60cm.
Offshore there’s some big Nannygai which are very consistent from the reefs. Using Vexed Bottom Jigs are one of the most effective ways to catch them and everything else that lives on the reefs. Out past Flinders Island there are Samson fish and Kingfish with a few Tuna. Flinders Island also has plenty of big Whiting with very few under 50cm.

There are a few Blue Crabs getting around in the bays and most are big ones too, there seems to more and more in the last few years. Whiting, Garfish, Snook, Tommies, Salmon Trout and some Flathead can all be caught around Coffin Bay also. Dutton Bay jetty has been great for Garfish and there are some Flathead off of the rocks.
Some fishers targeting Gummy Sharks late afternoon and into the night have reported some good catches with up to 6 caught in a session with most released. Give some of channels ago that have plenty current going past and use a bit of burley to get the Gummies sniffing around.
Farm Beach has again been very reliable for Whiting with bag limits caught very quickly, with low bag limits many fishers are using the Z-Man worms, small Nomad Squidtrex jigs and the ever-reliable Vexed Micro Meat Jigs. There’s no shortage of Garfish and Snook from this area.
Tuna fishing offshore over the weekend has been disappointing with areas that should be firing devoid of fish. Rocky Island is where you need to head to for Tuna. Kingfish and Samson fish can also be expected here. Bottom fishers did report that there’s plenty of Nannygai and a few big Gummy Sharks to 150cm.
For Salmon Greenly Beach was the only area reported to have Salmon but at Gunyah and Almonta there should be Salmon to some degree.

Big Crabs are the number 1 target this week with good numbers reported from many areas around Port Lincoln. Boat fishers have reported the best numbers but there’s also some good ones off of the town jetty, North Shields jetty and also from within the Marina for land-based fishers. Nighttime rakers can also find them in the shallows around Port Lincoln but many that have been raked at night have reported much smaller crabs. The big ones will be out there you just have to find the good areas.
Snook are in really good numbers throughout the bays and very easy to catch and trolling lures like the Jackson G-Controls and the Daiwa Double Clutch lures, you are certain to find them. Garfish are also very good with plenty around, and Squid are a bit touch and go, some fishers catch a few and other haven caught nothing.
Give the North Shore and Boston Island a go, they seem like the best areas to try.
Whiting reports have been average with some around but not a lot in the bays, they will come back hopefully on the next moon cycle but down the coast at Taylors and Thistle Islands big Whiting have been reported and plenty of them whilst bag limits also have been caught in very quick time once they have been found. Squid are very hard to find with most fishers reporting zero in the area. Snook and Garfish are well worth chasing here and there’s plenty of them here.
Offshore all the good Tuna grounds out from Port Lincoln have had zero Tuna reported over the weekend. There was some rat Kingfish caught at the Cabbage Patch and South Neptunes and Nannygai from the reefs but generally unusually quiet.
For Salmon there’s still plenty down along the Sleaford to Wanna coast, they are all mixed in size anywhere from 1-3.5kg and there’s no shortage of Bronze Whaler Sharks not far from the Salmon. Lure fishing proved the best method for Salmon with Jackson Metal Effects, Arma Nugget and the trusty Daiwa Over There Stick Baits doing the damage.

There’s been a few blue Crabs reported here this week just south of the town. Garfish, Snook and some Whiting have been reported south of Tumby this week and the same can be expected in front of the town. The Group is still fishing well for big Whiting and some good size silver Trevally as well as Snook and Garfish can be caught. There are a few Squid but they have slowed down.
Tuna fishers have looked at Rosalind Shoal but none have been reported, Just Bronze Whalers and big snook. Don’t bother trying for Gummy Sharks here or some of the other reef close by as you will just get plagued out by Snapper.
Yellowfin Whiting fishers are finding some fish, but generally its been hard going by recent reports.

Port Neill has had the best reports with boat fishers reporting Whiting, Snook and Garfish. Garfish are in good numbers and there’s some big ones swimming out there.
Yellowfin Whiting are going ok from the beaches in both areas with again good numbers reported, lure fishing has been the most popular method with the Daiwa Slippery Dog and Jabbers Honcho Stick baits good lures to use.
