Good reports this week with some decent weather over the weekend with plenty of fish out there to be caught. Salmon, Whiting, Flathead and School Sharks are in abundance right now and they are the most reported fish being caught right now. The weather is a mixed bag with at least a few good days each week between the average ones.
Here’s what has been caught over the last week.
Elliston
Salmon have been caught from all beaches in the area. Sheringa, Locks Well, Talia and Mount Camel. Sizes vary from 1-3kg from most beaches with a few bigger ones from Taila. There’s also some big Flathead and big Tommies from many of these beaches also. Lure fishing has been good for the Salmon with Buku Flutter Bombs, Arma Flash Harrys and Jackson Metal Effects excellent casting lures. School Sharks are also a good option for those fishing after dark from the beaches with Sheringa and Talia holding some good numbers. There are also plenty of rock areas from Sheringa to Streaky Bay that also hold good numbers of School Sharks.
There haven’t been many other reports from further west this week.
Coffin Bay
There’s been some good numbers of Whiting reported in the last week within the bays, many of the fish have been caught land-based with fish coming in from the rock areas within Dutton Bay, Seal Corner, the Ledge, Snapper Rocks and the boat ramp.
Boat fishers also don’t have to venture to far to catch a decent feed of Whiting, there are many more areas not far the ramp that are producing some good Whiting catches. Flathead are the next fish on the list for many fishers at Coffin Bay with no shortage of them, there has been some good fish around the 60cm mark caught this week within the bays and also at Frenchman’s – Coles Point and also within the National Park between Point Longnose and Sir Isaac’s for the land-based fishers.
Boat fishers will also find a few Flathead casting soft plastics in close to the shore in these areas and the best plastics once again have been the Arma Paddle tails, Daiwa Bait Junkie Jerk Shad in the creaming soda colour and the Nomad Prawns.
Farm Beach is fishing really well for Whiting with no shortage of decent sized fish there but most areas are fishing well, with the Vexed Micro Meat jigs and the Z-Man plastic worms continue to perform really well for those not wanting to use bait or want to try less bait.
In the deeper water off of Farm Beach and Coles Point there’s good numbers of School Sharks and also a few Gummy Sharks lurking around.
Offshore it’s the same on the reefs for the Sharks and then there’s good numbers of Nannygai and a few Blue Morwong.
For Salmon they are just about at all the good Salmon beaches in the area, you just need the good weather conditions and you will catch fish.
Port Lincoln
Some decent sized Flathead have been caught by lure casters along the North Shore and the also within the National Park, pick the big afternoon tides for the best chance of success. King George Whiting have been very good along the North Shore and at Tulka there has been better numbers caught from the rocks.
Boat fishers have also seen an improvement in Whiting numbers in the bays with the North Shore and the Proper improving. Down the coast Thistle and Taylors have been much better for Whiting and they can also be caught at McLarens and Carcase Rock, these are much better sized fish.
Offshore there’s been Nannygai, Blue Morwong and School Sharks mostly but there’s also Samson Fish out there on the reefs. Vexed Bottom Meat jigs have been highly effective on these fish.
Salmon fishing has been also very good at Sleaford, there are good schools of fish around off the coast down there. When the weather is good you should have no problems catching fish and lure fishing has been the way to go.
Tumby Bay
There’s some decent Flathead getting around off the beaches south of Tumby and all mostly caught on soft plastics but also drifting around whole Pilchards can also be highly effective. Whiting fishing has improved at The Group and also inshore, Garfish and Snook are also worth chasing here in close and also at The Group. The Group also has some Trevally and also Gummy Sharks.
Port Neill and Arno Bay
Whiting fishing has improved and there’s some whopper fish at Arno Bay. Snook and Garfish are good and there’s some Tommies worth catching for the smoker. There’s Flathead at both areas off of the beaches and there’s some good ones too and all mostly caught on soft plastics.
Salmon are still around on the beaches at Lipson Cove, smaller fish but fun to catch on lures or lighter line.
