Salmon and Whiting and to a lesser extent Squid depending on where you are have been the main reports and once again fishing for these fish have been good. The days are getting longer and longer and finally a few warmer days here and there, the fishing will remain good and we should start to see a few of the summer fish starting to show up in better numbers.
Here’s what has been caught over the last week.
Elliston
Salmon are still in good numbers from many of the beaches in the area. Locks Well has had some good schools of fish there, Sheringa and Talia beaches also have some Salmon. Bronze Whaler Sharks will be around by the end of the month from Talia Beach and any of the warmer days during the month of September are well worth having a go for them.
All the way up to Fowlers Bay will be the same for Sharks and the few early season Mulloway can also be on the cards. Many of the shallower beaches from Elliston to Streaky are also producing a mixture of smaller fish like Whiting, Mullet, Salmon Trout, Tommies and the odd Flathead for land-based fishers. Boat fishers will also find Whiting, Garfish and Squid in the same area.
Coffin Bay
In the bays are all the usuals including Whiting, Tommies, Salmon Trout and a few Snook, reports have been ok nothing fantastic but you will catch a feed a least. Land based fishers have been reported the most fish.
Farm Beach fishers also are going ok, some fishers are going really well and others struggling. For the Whiting use Pilchard burley blocks and the Vexed Micro Meat if your finding it hard going, you will catch more fish with those two ingredients. There’s also Squid, Tommies, Salmon Trout and some Snook around on the Whiting grounds.
Gummy and School Sharks can also be caught in the deeper water areas out from Frenchman’s and Coles Point, a good burley trail will get them sniffing out your bait. Rock fishers will also be able to catch the same Sharks in the same area late in the day and into the night.
Salmon fishing again has been excellent. Greenly and Gunyah Beaches have had the best reports but just about all good surf beaches in the area do have Salmon. Lure fishing has been the most popular method of catching Salmon and some of the best Salmon lures this week have been the Jabbers Moxie Metals, Samaki Micro Jigs in the green or orange colours and the Daiwa Over There Stick Baits are proven Salmon slayers.
Port Lincoln
Land based fishers are still finding it tough going but there are improvements. The jetties around town do have Squid, Tommies and a few Whiting but you do have to put in a bit of time. Over in the national park the fishing is better off of the rocks for Squid, Tommies, Salmon Trout, a few Garfish and Snook, the area between Donnington and Taylors Landing is best. Salmon fishing is excellent in the national park along Sleaford with the Wanna to Miller Hole area one of the best spots but the Salmon are all along that coast. There are big schools of fish there and there are big fish with many going close to the 4kg mark.
Boat fishing news has been slower due to the weather and the area between Carcase Rocks to Thistle Island and it remains the best area but the fishing has slowed a bit compared to what it was like a month ago. Whiting, Snook and Squid are the main targets in this area but there a few pockets of big Garfish, they will get better each week from here.
In the bays there are Whiting and Squid around and you can expect them to get better each week from here. The north shore has been the best area but you also have Boston Island and the proper to have a look at.
Tumby Bay
Squid reports have been better mostly on the inshore grounds south of Tumby. Bolingbroke is one of those better areas but most others are starting to come back to what they were like.
Whiting fishing has been better also on the inshore grounds and also out at the Group. Decent sized fish are out there along with Snook, Trevally, Red Mullet and some Salmon.
