Reports have been good over the last week with some really good fish caught from many areas around the coast. All we need now is for a bit of warmer weather and less wind and then we can head off offshore for a more variety.
Here’s what has been biting over the last week.
Elliston
Not as many Salmon reports this week but it’s still worth a look. Sheringa and Locks Well are the best areas for Salmon and Talia does have some Salmon and there are also Sharks here at night, Bronze Whalers and Gummies.
Whiting and Snook can be caught by the boaties around Waldegrove Island and further up the coast at Venus, Streaky, Smoky and Ceduna and there’s a mixture of Whiting, Snook, Garfish, Tommies, Salmon Trout and Squid.
Mulloway fishing has been good and there has been some great reports from the beaches west of Ceduna with some groups catching 12 or more fish in a day up to 70lbs. If you pick the right weather you will be in for some action. Sharks, big Salmon and Tailor are all there as well.
Coffin Bay
In the bays there’s some good fishing there at the moment, plenty of small stuff there like Whiting, Tommies, Garfish, Salmon Trout and Snook, there’s a good chance of a Gummy Shark too as they have been going fairly well in the past few weeks, It’s best to be using circle hooks right now as the Snapper have moved in and circle hooks are best for releasing them.
Farm Beach also has been pretty good for Whiting and plenty of other fish including Garfish, Tommies, Snook, Salmon Trout and a few Squid, with the new bag limits for Whiting there have been many fishers putting away the bait and challenging themselves by using lures and plastics for Whiting, its good fun and a challenge catching on lures and plastics and Whiting have been taking plenty. The Z-Man worms, Vexed micro meats and Nomad squidtrex in the 55mm and 65mm sizes are all excellent for Whiting and there’s plenty of other good plastics that will work. You will also give yourself a good chance to catch a Flathead also.
Offshore reports have been nil this week, hopefully we do get some good weather soon.
For salmon have a look at Almonta and Gunyah beaches, schools of fish have been moving through the area and its just a matter of being there when they are there.
Port Lincoln
Off the jetties there has been Squid, Garfish, Tommies and the odd Whiting, the Squid are a bit hit and miss. There are plenty of areas around town to catch Garfish and there are some big ones around, with the wind behind your back and a bit of burley you should be able to catch a feed of Garfish off of the rocks. Boat fishers also should be able to find good numbers of Garfish, Tommies, Snook, Whiting and a few Squid, most areas within the bays do hold all these fish.
Further down the coast Whiting can be caught from Carcase rocks right down to Thistle Island. There’s Squid, Snook and Garfish there as well.
Offshore news also has been nonexistent this week and hopefully there’s a change in the weather.
For Salmon along the Sleaford coast there are plenty of Salmon schools here. Bronze Whaler Sharks have been circling most schools of Salmon, and most are out of casting range. You need good casting lures for when they are within casting range and the Arma nugget and Flash harry lures will certainly get you out to the Salmon schools. If you want a crack at the Bronze Whalers, catch a Salmon and swim it back out to the Salmon school with a wire trace and you should be able to hook one up. We have plenty of Shark gear instore and our Shimano land based Bronzie Basher game rods are perfect for this kind of fishing.
Tumby Bay
Fishing here is good with no shortage of fish. Whiting, Garfish, Tommies, Snook and Squid are all here, the boat fishing is the best way to catch these fish as we haven’t had to many land based reports other than Garfish which can be caught of the rocks south of Tumby.
For boat fishers in close to town and down to Bolingbroke have been good mostly for Garfish and Squid and the Group is good for all odd the above and you can also add in Trevally, Salmon, Gummy and Bronze Whaler Sharks.
Port Neill & Arno Bay
The fishing has picked up very well in this area for the boat fishers with Whiting, Snook, Garfish, Tommies and Squid all on the menu here. Bronze Whaler Sharks also can be caught from the boat or off the shore.
The jetties are also very good for Garfish and Squid with Port Neill really good. There’s also some big Snook hanging around and these are good fun on small lures. The new Daiwa Double Clutch in the Squid colour is sure to be great for the jetty Snook. This colour is a limited edition colour with only limited numbers of each size and will sell out fast. Don’t leave it too late if you want any of these lures.
