Fishing Report – Wednesday 13th August 2025

The weather has been pretty good over the last week and as we are getting close to spring the fishing has been excellent. We have had the best fishing reports all winter over the last week.

Many fishers were finally able to get out offshore and the reports from the Lower EP were excellent. Salmon fishing is exceptional, and the Whiting are biting strongly.

Here’s the run down on the last week of fishing.

Elliston

There’s been multiple reports of big Salmon here from just about all locations. Talia has been one of the best for monsters. 4-5kg fish are here on these beaches. For the big ones at Talia or Mt Camel a burley bag with fish scraps will get them fired up and bait fishing might be the best way of catching them. Further west there’s more consistent big Salmon action, t\he beaches at Streaky Bay, Tuckermore Beach and the Fowlers Bay surf beaches are all firing for monster fish.

At Fowlers Bay there are some big Squid and Tommies there. Many of these beaches and rock areas from Streaky to Fowlers are also great for School and Gummy Sharks. If you put in the time, you should be able to hook onto a few.

Coffin Bay

In the bays the reports have been a bit slow but there are all the usual like Tommies, Salmon Trout and a few Whiting, Farm Beach is where all the action is with plenty of good reports for Whiting. Most areas are good and if you don’t find Whiting just keep moving around and use good burley like crushed Pilchard blocks. The Vexed Micro Meat Jigs will also help you catch the Whiting which attract and entice the Whiting to bite better and harder. You will also find some Tommies, Salmon Trout, Snook and some Squid.

There were some excellent offshore reports from the weekend with Nannygai, Blue Morwong, Harlequin fish, School and Gummy Sharks all getting reported from offshore grounds out from Point Sir Isaacs. Some fishers reported catching several School Sharks from various areas some close to 30kg so if your after something a bit big bigger it be worth running wire traces when bottom fishing out there.

Salmon fishing has improved from Gunyah Beach and Greenly and Convention Beaches are still fishing very well. Salmon here average 3kg but you can expect Salmon 4kg plus from any of these beaches. Lure fishing has been good here with more and more fishers using micro jigs like the Jabbers, Shimano and Samaki jigs. They cast further than most other lures and there are some great colours that get the Salmon’s attention.

Port Lincoln

Land based fishing has been average around Port Lincoln, but it is also just that time of the year when fish life are a bit sluggish from shore around town. Give it another 3 weeks and there should be some improvement.

Boat fishers are going better with some Whiting and Squid from around the bays. Squid are still hard going but they are there, orange Yo Zuri jigs will get the Squid. The Passage is still firing for Whiting. Carcase Rocks, McLarens, Taylors and Thistle Island have all been firing for Whiting and there’s plenty of other areas where you will also find Whiting. Squid are also in good numbers along with Snook, Red Mullet and Trevally in some areas. Big Snapper were also reported from some areas which were taking Whiting lines.

Offshore Snapper where also a problem in some areas making almost impossible to catch anything else. When you are able to find a Snapper free reef there’s some big Nannygai, Blue Morwong, Sharks and some Samson fish, the Vexed Bottom Meat Jigs have been excellent for this type of fishing.

Salmon fishing once again has been excellent in the national park from Wanna through to the Salmon Hole. Schools of Salmon might not always be visible but most areas do have Salmon and you can either start with baits or cast lures until you find them, but many have been caught and good fish 3kg plus.

Tumby Bay/Port Neill/Arno Bay

Whiting Fishing at Tumby Bay has been good from many areas from in close at Tumby in front of town right down to Thuruna and also the Group has also been much better. Squid are still not right but there are some good patches of Squid in some areas, you just have to find them.

There has also been the odd Gummy Sharks caught here and there are around Tumby and the Group. Further up the coast there is not much to report on and hopefully there is some good news soon from Port Neill and Arno Bay.
