The weather has been a bit windy and swell has also been up a bit but that hasn’t stopped fishers from heading out there. There’s still plenty of inshore areas that are firing and the fishing is steadily improving each week now. Whiting and Garfish seem to be a couple of fish that are really starting to improve from many areas.
Here’s what has been on the bite over the last week.
Elliston
Not too many reports this week but there have been some good Garfish caught from the jetty an there are some big Tommies also and few good-sized Squid. Beach fishers at Waterloo, Anxious Bay and Walkers Rocks can find a Whiting and Flathead by casting into the sand holes. Venus Bay has Squid and Whiting from the jetty and also boat fishers have been going ok.
At Streaky Bay there’s Squid but the Whiting have been reported to be on the small-size depending on where you fish. At Ceduna there’s Kingfish around the jetty, Squid and Garfish also reported.
On the Mulloway front, there’s been a few fishers giving it a good crack but this week only small fish have been reported from Tuckermore and the Dog Fence. There is plenty of Salmon and a few Bronze Whalers around 3-4 foot and a couple of Gummy Sharks also. We might need another hit of heat to bring on the big Mulloway.
Coffin Bay
There’s plenty of small fish showing up, Garfish are getting better and the Dutton Bay jetty has been ok from what we have heard. There’s better numbers of Whiting also, Snook, Salmon Trout and Tommies also. Gummy Sharks have been in good numbers also and late afternoon and into night is the time to target them. There are a few Eagle Rays now spoiling the show so make sure you have a few hooks ready.
Farm Beach once again has been good for Whiting. The sandhills and off the fence line in the deeper water have been the two spots that most have been fishing and those spots have been fishing well. Vexed Micro Meat Jigs have been especially working well for the Whiting. There would also be plenty of Garfish here.
Offshore reports have been nil this week mostly due to the wind and swell but it should be good later in the week, fingers crossed. For Salmon the wind and swell also mucked up the fishing at the surf beaches but there were a few reports from the Greenly area before the weather turned. The Salmon will be on the job once the weather comes good later in the week.
Port Lincoln
The jetties have been fairly quiet for a while now but now there are signs of life. Whiting have just started of the town jetty and there would be some off of the main wharf, Axel Stenross is also worth a try. Garfish and Tommies can be caught off of the rocks within the Proper and Murrays Point. The North Shore would also have a few Garfish for the land based fishers and Louth Bay would also be a great option.
For boat fishers there’s now Whiting spread right out within the bays, The Proper and Spalding Cove have been the best so far but they should also be showing up around Point Boston to North Sheilds Jetty. Most fishers are getting feed at least and couple boats have caught 20 or more fish. There’s Snook and Garfish in the bays so if you cant find to many Whiting these are there and taste pretty good when fresh. Whiting are down in the Passage also, there were a few reports before the weather turned and most were quite good. Carcase Rock and Thistle Island had the best reports.
Offshore reports have been quiet due to the weather and also the Salmon news on the south coast has also been average. The Salmon will be out biting strongly on the south coast when the wind and swell drops off.
Tumby Bay
The reports from out at the Group have been really good for Whiting, there have been multiple reports and all have been good ones with the fish size generally very good and not many small fish. There’s also Snook and Salmon around some of the islands if your trolling lures around like the Daiwa Double Lures and Jackson G-Controls. There’s some big Garfish around and Silver Trevally also.
Inshore grounds are also good for Whiting, Garfish and Snook and you don’t have to head right out, there’s plenty in close. There’s even been the odd big Flathead caught from the beaches south of Tumby. A few kids casting soft plastics around on school holidays managed a few around the 55cm mark.
Port Neill and Arno Bay
Whiting, Snook and Garfish seem to be the fish of the moment in these two areas but not much else has been reported. South of Port Neill at this time of the year is Shark time, there are usually a few big Bronze Whaler showing up here at this time of year. If your after Shark gear we have plenty in store including our Shimano land based game rod, Bronzie Basher and now we have the Aeroo Drones also to help deploy those baits out for the Sharks.
