Fishing Report – Wednesday 17th June 2026

The winter weather has been a bit damper this week with really only a few of the main winter spots firing. Salmon are all over the place, Whiting are really starting to kick in, School Sharks are firing all along the West Coast and Flathead are still a good prospect but numbers of fish being caught are starting to drop off now as winter sets in. Offshore reports have dried up due to the weather.

Here’s what has been happening over the last week.

Elliston

Salmon fishing has been excellent at Locks Well and Talia, these two beaches have been standouts with fish around the 3kg mark being consistent catches and lure fishing and baits will get the job done. There’s also lots of smaller fish from these beaches like Flathead, Mullet and some big Tommies. If the water is clear enough there’s some big Squid off of the jetty.

Venus Bay has been a bit hit and miss on the Whiting but if your there for a week or two you will get a few good days in each week on the Whiting to make a trip there worthwhile. School Sharks are also good from Sheringa to Streaky Bay from a number of rock and beach areas. Multiple Sharks can be caught in a session with most fishers taking their one Shark and releasing the rest.

Coffin Bay

Whiting are in good numbers again this week with plenty of fish being caught from many rock areas within Coffin Bay and also at Dutton Bay, you don’t need a boat just a good casting rod. There are Flathead being caught just not in the big numbers now but still some very big fish with soft plastics being the go too and the Daiwa Bait Junkie 5 inch jerk shad in then creaming soda colour being very good, the Arma Paddle Tails and Jackson Bone Baits also very good for the Flathead. Tommies and Salmon Trout are also very good to target within the bays with plenty around.

Farm Beach fishers should have no problems with Whiting out on the Whiting grounds with plenty being reported from many areas. Vexed Micro Meat jigs have been excellent on the Whiting.

Salmon fishers have been catching the best numbers of Salmon from Greenly and Convention beaches but they are mixed sized fish here and 1-3kg and it sounds like a bit of a lucky dip as to what you get. Almonta and Gunyah also have Salmon but there have been less reports. Schools Sharks can be found from many areas between Frenchman’s and Mount Drummond, most have been caught from deep water rock spots at night or late afternoon. The Coffin Bay National Park also has some good School Sharks coming from Point Avoid and further up in the park on the ocean side of the park.

Port Lincoln

For land based fishers there’s Whiting on the North Shore and Tulka and also Flathead are still being caught on the North Shore and also in the National Park. Boat fishers seem to be going really on the Whiting on the North Shore now and there’s good schools of Garfish also, all mostly big ones. There’s a few Whiting in the proper also. The Z-Man plastic worms have been good on the local Whiting and also the Nomad Squidtrex in the 55 and 65mm sizes if you want to try something different.

Down the coast the fishing has been a bit slower in the Passage but there are still plenty of fish there and you should be able to catch a feed. There are some good schools of big Garfish around Mclarens Point and with our new fresh GENTS in store, you should hook up plenty. There’s also big Snook mostly around Taylors Landing and Thistle Island. There are some big Gummy Sharks around Thistle Island if your after something a bit bigger.

On the south coast there’s big schools of Salmon all along from Wreck Beach to Wanna. The Salmon Hole has been quite good and lure fishing has been the way to go with Jackson Metal Effects, Buku Flutter Bombs and the Daiwa Saltiga stick baits excellent for the almon.

Tumby Bay/Port Neill/Arno Bay

The first of the winter blood worm runs should now be on the way so fishing most likely will slow down over the new moon period in these areas. There are Flathead being caught from beaches in the area from Bollingbroke, around Port Neill’s beaches  and a few areas north of Arno there’s a few good Flathead showing up. Whiting, Garfish and Snook are the other fish species reported from these areas.
