Fishing Report – Wednesday 17th September 2025

Strong winds this week have shut down fishing from many areas, but despite the strong winds there are still good spots for fishing that have produced some great fishing. Land based fishers this week have been able to catch some great fish. Boat fishing has been limited, northerly winds for most of week have kept many off the water, but there’s been a couple of good days this week where you can get out. When the northerly winds blow usually late in the day they do calm right out so you may might be able to get for a late afternoon fish.

Here’s what has been biting over the last week.

Elliston

Salmon are still very prevalent on all beaches around Elliston, smaller fish like Whiting, Mullet, Tommies and Flathead are also a chance around Elliston, Sheringa and Walkers Rocks.

All the way up to Streaky Bay along the coast also has much of the same kind of fishing. Penong and Fowlers Bay are big Salmon hot spots right now with some monster Salmon 5kg plus of off some of the beaches in the area.

Gummy Sharks also can be caught from the surf beaches and probably now a few bronze whalers.

Coffin Bay

There’s a few more Whiting starting to show up in the bays now and that should only get better from here on. Garfish and Snook will follow in bigger numbers along with Salmon Trout and Tommies. Most of the reports have been from land-based fishers this week fishing the rocks around Coffin Bay, but boat fishers should also be able to find some good numbers of fish here.

Farm Beach has been fishing better over the last week for Whiting with many reports, The new Z-Man soft plastics worms have been a winner on the Whiting, and if you want to try something different these really work well and once you get the hang of using the worms you won’t be buying much bait.

There’s also plenty of other fish out there like Salmon Trout, Tommies, a few Snook, Red Mullet and Squid. Garfish should also be starting to build up in good numbers soon so be on the look out for some big fat Coffin Bay Gars. You will also find some Gummy and School Sharks in the deeper water areas.

Offshore the few that managed to get there were rewarded with some good catches of Nannygai, the Vexed Bottom Meat Jigs were very successful in catching the Nannygai once again.

Salmon fishing has been excellent again off of the beaches around Coffin Bay with Gunyah and Greenly Beaches, the two hotspots.

Port Lincoln

Jetty news is getting better now from around Port Lincoln. Squid are returning and there’s been a few better reports than what we have been recently hearing. The new Daiwa Squid jigs have been the standout lure. There is also some Tommies and a few Salmon Trout from the main wharf and there should also be some Whiting around, by the end of the month it should be pretty good. Some of the rocks areas around town have also had more Squid, so it’s getting better.

Boat fishers are also starting to see the Squid return in better numbers in the bays and Whiting have been best along the North Shore but all other areas should have more showing up. Boston Island, Spalding Cove and the Proper should all be better now and worth a shot.

Down the Passage the Whiting have been a bit slower over the last week but there’s still plenty there, Thistle Island is the same. At Thistle Island on the Whiting grounds there’s also been a few Flathead and some big Squid.

Offshore there’s Blue Morwong, Nannygai and the odd Samson fish for when you can get there.

Salmon are in big schools along the Sleaford Coast with some rippers to 4kg among them. Lure fishing with the Daiwa Over There Stick Baits, Arma Twist and the Jabbers Moxie Metals are just some of the best Salmon lures.

Tumby Bay

The Whiting fishing is reported to be excellent right now from the inshore grounds and also out at the Group, the Group is the better of two with some good-sized fish out there. There’s also better numbers of Squid from the inshore grounds and likewise at the Group, hopefully soon it’s back to normal for the Squid.

Further north Squid sound like they are better around Port Neill and there is also Whiting.

Cowell also has some areas where the fishing is starting to get better and hopefully that whole area will soon be back to normal. Fingers crossed.
