School holidays are almost here and the fish are biting. Salmon, Whiting and School Sharks by far are the most popular fish targets at the moment. There are also good catches of Nannygai offshore when the conditions allow and there’s still Flathead around but catches have certainly slowed down.
Here’s what has been biting over the last week.
Elliston
Salmon fishing has been consistent at all the beaches in the area. Locks Well has had some massive schools of fish and some good-sized fish have been coming from Talia Beach, there are fish starting to push 4kg now and the 5kg ones might not be too far away either. Talia also has Flathead as a bi-catch. There’s also lots of smaller fish like Tommies and Mullet from the surf beaches and most are good-sized fish.
There hasn’t been any boat news but if you can get out there and the fishing is sure to be good. Most of the beaches are good for a School Shark or a Gummy Shark and further up towards Streaky Bay you will also have success on the Sharks up there. Many of the jetties here are also good for Squid. Haslam, Smoky Bay and Ceduna jetties are all good for Squid.
Coffin Bay
Whiting have been the most reported fish here during the past week with plenty of fish coming from inside the bays. Land based and boat fishers will be able to get in on the action. Salmon Trout and Tommies are also on the bite here and there’s still the odd Flathead that has been caught. The best action is out at Farm Beach, there are plenty of Whiting being caught right now from many of the good grounds out there. Vexed Micro Meat jigs have been excellent for the Whiting and there’s been a few Flathead also taken on these jigs. Salmon Trout, Tommies and the odd Snook have also been caught here.
Offshore reports have been good for Nannygai and the odd Blue Morwong and also School Sharks. There’s been a few over the 20kg mark caught out there. School Sharks have been also caught from numerous rock areas between Frenchman’s and Point Drummond and there are also some decent Flathead in this area being taken on soft plastics. Arma Paddle Tails and Jackson Bone Baits have been excellent.
For Salmon Greenly Beach area seems to be the most consistent place for Salmon with the best reports. Gunyah and Almonta should also be good but just haven’t had any reports.
Port Lincoln
Whiting can be caught from the rocks at Tulka and Murrays Point. The Murrays Point track looks to be reopened and reports from here have been good. Around the shipyard there’s no shortage of Salmon Trout with plenty there and casting a Daiwa Double Clutch lure around here will see you catch plenty in no time. Within the bays there’s a few reports but not too many though and it’s mainly Whiting and Garfish. The North Shore and the Proper are the areas with the best fishing. Carcase Rocks, McLaren Point, Taylors and Thistle Island are all good Whiting areas at the moment, this is where the best fishing has been reported. There are a few areas here that have good numbers of Garfish also.
Offshore there’s just been a few reports of Nannygai and the odd School Shark, nothing much else.
For Salmon there are some big schools of Salmon between Wanna and the Salmon Hole and there are some good fish here with fish to 3kg plus from what we have seen and most have caught on lures like the Buku Flutter Bombs and Jabbers Moxie Metals.
Tumby Bay/Port Neill/Arno Bay
Reports have been fairly lean from these areas this week Whiting, Snook and Garfish seem to be very consistent from all these areas. Flathead seem to be best of the beaches between Port Neill and Arno Bay. Some fishers have even reported Yellowfin Whiting from the same areas in small numbers but really good sized fish.
