Fishing Report – Wednesday 1st October 2025

With winter sports now over fishing will take front and centre for many now on the weekends and with the long weekend coming up and school holidays there’s already been lots of interest in fishing even with the average weather over the last week.

The good news is the weather is looking better over the long weekend and the fishing is good, areas that have been algae affected are coming back to life with fish found in deeper cleaner water.

Here’s what has been biting over the last week.

Elliston

The best Salmon reports have come from Sheringa Beach this week with Salmon caught there in the 4-5kg range. Lure fishers have done well with the Arma Twist metal lures one of the standouts. Samaki green and gold micro jigs are also working well and the Daiwa Over There stick baits are also great lures to use.

Locks Well hasn’t been as good and Talia Beach but it does have Salmon along with Gummy Sharks and maybe the odd Bronze Whaler Shark could show up. Boat fishers can find some nice Whiting, Snook, Tommies, Salmon Trout and Squid from Elliston, Venus Bay, Baird Bay and Streaky Bay. There will also be many making the trip further west to the Mulloway beaches west of Ceduna, it’s only early so far in the season and there will be some Mulloway caught soon but mostly what has been reported from those beaches is big Salmon and Gummy Sharks, a few warm days will start kicking off the fishing there soon.

Coffin Bay

The fishing has improved vastly there recently with some good Whiting caught land based areas in recent weeks. Many of the Whiting have been caught on the new Z-Man soft plastic  worms which have been working great. There are also plenty of Salmon Trout, Tommies and a few Snook.

Boat fishers will also find the same in the bays but out at Farm Beach the fishing has been good for Whiting, good catches have been reported from many areas but the sandhills has been one of the better areas. There’s also plenty of other fish there like some big Garfish if you burley up as well as Salmon Trout, Tommies, Snook and even a few Flathead have been caught and there is also some Squid there. Gummy and School sharks can also be caught in the deeper water areas out from Frenchmans and Coles Point. You will also find some of these Sharks off of the beaches and rocks in the same area.

Offshore there are Nannygai and School Sharks mostly, most good areas out from Point Sir Isaac’s have some good fish. For Salmon there are plenty from Gunyah and Almonta and they are good fish too, this is the best time of the year for Salmon from these beaches.

Convention and Greenly beaches also have Salmon but are a bit smaller.

Port Lincoln

Squid are coming from the jetties in better numbers with the Shimano Flash Boost jigs and the YoZuri HS colour being some of the best jigs right now. Tommies and a few Whiting can also be caught. Boat fishers are finding Whiting scattered around the bays along with Squid and Snook.

The Passage is still firing for Whiting, it did slow down for a while but looks like it has fired back up with Mclarens and Taylors the two best areas. Squid numbers have dropped off but they are there along with Snook and Tommies. Thistle Island is much the same.

Offshore there has been some Nannygai around Williams and the bottom of Thistle Island and there is a few Blue Morwong and School Sharks as well.

For Salmon the national park still has plenty in the 3-4kg range, right along the Sleaford Bay there’s Salmon spread right out, lure fishing has been one off the best methods to catch the Salmon.

Tumby Bay

Squid are still hard going like many other areas but are around in some spots. Whiting on the other hand are going well with more big Whiting reported from both the inshore grounds and also out at the Group. Garfish are also scarce in some areas but there are some decent pockets of fish around.

Further up the coast there are better reports of fish Port Neill, Arno Bay and also Cowell. Deeper water areas do seem to be better than the shallows and if you look around in these areas you will find some Whiting and Squid and patches of Garfish.
