Fishing Report - Wednesday 20th May 2026

The weather over the last week has not been too bad with much calmer weather, the fishing has been mixed with some good reports and some very average reports mostly on the Whiting front but this is the peak breeding time so some areas will be slow.

Salmon are going well from most of the good Salmon areas and there’s been some good offshore reports on the reef fish.

Here’s what has been biting.

Salmon are biting from most of the beaches in the area with Locks Well and Sheringa being good beaches too for Salmon, decent sized fish are there, around the 3kg mark. Talia and Mount Camel are also worth a crack. Lure fishing has been good and some of the best lures are the Jackson Metal Effects, Buku Flutter Bombs and the Arma Nuggets. These lures are excellent for casting. Flathead can also be caught off of the more sheltered beaches around Elliston and also at Walkers Rocks and there are a few Whiting here also. Off the jetty there is Squid, Tommies and Garfish.

Offshore big Nannygai, Blue Morwong and Sharks can be found off of the reefs from Elliston to Streaky Bay, there is some good fishing out there. Squid can be caught off of the jetties at Streaky, Haslam and Smoky Bay the pink and orange coloured jigs are great for this area.

Some good Flathead fishing has been on offer again this week with multiple areas around Coffin Bay and the surrounding areas holding good fish 60cm plus, soft plastics have been the way to go and one that is excellent is the Daiwa Bait Junkie 5 inch Jerk Shad in the creaming soda colour, This particular colour was discontinued and its back in store and is one of the best plastics for Flathead. The Arma Paddle Tails also have been working well and there’s a great range of Nomad plastics also working well.

Whiting reports have been good around town for both land based and boat fishers and there is also some Snook, Salmon Trout, Tommies and a few Garfish. Night fishers can target Gummy Sharks within the bays and there are a few around. Farm Beach has Whiting, many caught on the Vexed Micro Meats and the Z-Man worms and most areas are good for them. Tommies, Salmon Trout and some Garfish are also out there biting. The Coles Point area has a few Nannygai and School Sharks are very reliable if you anchor and burley up for them. Further out from Point Sir Isaacs on the reefs there’s a mixture of Nannygai, Blue Morwong and School Sharks.

Salmon fishing has been best around the Greenly Beach and Convention Beach areas, not too many reports from Gunyah or Almonta but there should be Salmon around from those areas.

Off the jetties Squid are off the menu due to the ban and plenty have been sighted, hopefully we have a good Squid fishery again when it opens up. There are some good Whiting that have been caught off of the town jetty and the main wharf has had some good Salmon caught this week.

Whiting can also be caught off the rocks at Tulka and the North Shore. There is also some good areas at in the national park that have some big Whiting off of the rocks as well. Flathead can be caught in the national park off the beaches, not as many as Coffin Bay but there are still some good fish around. Carcase rocks to Taylors Landing hold some good ones and also Memory Cove.

Salmon are very reliable along the Sleaford coast at the moment with good schools of fish down there, some of these fish are better than 3kg.

For boat fishers the best Whiting at Port Lincoln is in the bays, the Proper has been quite good around the Monument – Woodcutters area with bag limits caught. Further down the coast Taylors and Thistle Island is hit and miss, many fishers have reported very slow fishing and this would be due mostly to the spawning happening right now.

Offshore reports have been quite good with some monster Blue Morwong, Nannygai and School Sharks are biting on the reefs. Vexed Bottom Meat jigs have been very good for these fish. Snapper have been invading areas around Williams Island and if you hit them, don’t waste your time just move on to another area.

Mostly boat news this week are Whiting and the reports have been average due to spawning, this should turnaround soon, but there are Snook, Tommies, Garfish and some big Trevally at the Group to chase and there are plenty of them out there to catch instead which are good eating.

Not much better here on the Whiting front either and Cowell sounds the same. There are Snook, Tommies and Garfish which are in good numbers. The beaches south of Port Neill are quite good for Salmon with a few good schools of fish there.

Garfish can be caught off of the Port Neill jetty and surrounding rock areas with some good fish there. Flathead can be caught off of the beaches here in both areas and there are some good sized fish and decent numbers.
