We can’t complain about the weather over the last week, it has been pretty good with plenty of decent fishing reports from all around the coast.
Here’s what has been biting.
Elliston
Salmon and more Salmon from the beaches around Elliston and also further west with Salmon being caught from just about all good surf beaches between Sheringa and Fowlers Bay. At Elliston the best Salmon fishing has come from Locks Well and Talia. Talia has the bigger fish and some of the fish here are better than 4kg and will continue from here on through to the end of August, if your after the biggest fish for Salmon comp now is when you should be really trying hard, the bigger fish will start to appear from now.
The really big Salmon are further west at Tuckermore or the beaches around Fowlers Bay and there are some true monsters over 5kg on some of these beaches. School Sharks and Gummy Sharks are also around on many of the these beaches that can be caught at night or you can also try for smaller fish like Flathead, Tommies and Mullet. There hasn’t been much else reported from the west.
Coffin Bay
Whiting have been the main report in the Coffin Bay area with a few coming from rock areas and boats fishing in close. Salmon Trout, Tommies and a few Gummy Sharks have also been reported.
The best fishing has come out at Farm Beach where there is plenty of Whiting and boat quotas can be caught very easily. There are multiple areas fishing well out there, and the Z-Man plastic worms are working very well.
Offshore there’s good numbers of Nannygai and School Sharks, the Vexed Bottom Meat jigs have been working very well on these fish. There has also been odd the Blue Morwong caught on the reefy grounds.
For Salmon most good surf beaches have fish and the best areas have been Greenly and Gunyah. The fish are off mixed size 1-3kg and taking a mix of lures and bait.
Port Lincoln
Late afternoons have been good for Whiting along the North Shore and also in the Proper for boat fishers. Some good catches have been reported this week and most fish are a really good size. Other Whiting reports have come from the Passage with reports from all areas between Carcase Rocks and Thistle Island but not all reports are good ones and there probably isn’t as many fish down there now as there was a month ago but if you move around you should go ok. Vexed Micro Meat jigs are well worth using for the Whiting as a bit of extra colour will attract the Whiting.
Offshore there’s Nannygai, Blue Morwong, School Sharks and the odd Samson fish if your lucky on the reefs past Williams Island.
For Salmon there’s no shortage along the Sleaford Coast with schools spread out all along this area. The fish size has dropped off with most being around the 1-2.5kg, smaller than usual for this time of the year but still good fun. Lure fishing has been the best way to get the Salmon with Buku Flutter Bombs, Arma Flash Harrys and Jackson Metal Effects all excellent lures to try. There are also a pack of big Bronze Whaler Sharks down there stirring up the Salmon for those after something a bit bigger.
Tumby Bay/Port Neill/Arno Bay
Not heaps of news and all mostly King George Whiting from these areas. The Group, south of Tumby and Port Neill all have had Whiting reports before the weekend. All reports have been good but there hasn’t been anything else. Cowell is another area with some good Whiting fishing outside the harbour.
