Fishing Report – Wednesday 24th September 2025

Salmon and Whiting fishing from many areas on the Eyre Peninsula are the dominate fish species. The Salmon fishing has been excellent with many areas holding Salmon to 4kg, and the it will only get better into October. The Whiting fishing also has been excellent with some reported over the last week to 55cm out from Tumby Bay.

There’s going to be plenty more fish showing up and here’s what has been biting over the last week.

Elliston

Salmon are still the main reported fish from this area with Locks Well the most popular spot with regular Salmon schools showing up on the beach. Lure fishing has been the best way to target the mobile schools. Talia Beach also has Salmon and for those wanting to camp out on the beach over the school holidays there will be Gummy Sharks at night and also some Flathead off of the beach.

When the weather is good the offshore fishing is excellent from Elliston to Ceduna on the reefs. Big Nannygai, Blue Morwong, Gummy Sharks and there should also be some Samson fish showing up on some reef areas out there and the best way to catch them is with the Vexed Bottom Meats.

There’s been plenty of fishers coming through the shop heading further west for Mulloway. It’s only early so reports haven’t come through yet but they won’t be far away. There are some monster Salmon up there from the beaches in the area.

Coffin Bay

Whiting are showing up in better numbers now within the bays and it’s well worth hitting the rocks or cruising around in the bays by boat for them. Salmon Trout, Tommies and a few Snook are also around. At night Gummy Sharks are staring to cruise around in better numbers, the Eagle Rays aren’t yet in plague numbers, so it’s worth setting up a burley trail and catch a Gummy or two.

Farm Beach is fishing well for whiting, there has been good reports from the Sandhills to Point Sir Isaacs with the Vexed Micro Meats accounting for many and also the new Z-Man plastic worms have also been a great choice and are excellent value for money. There will be many fishers out soon to discover just how effective these two new systems are at catching Whiting and they are much cheaper than Cockles.

The deeper water areas at Farm Beach and also Coles Point have Gummies and School Sharks and also the rock areas late in the day and into the night. There are quite a few good spots within the National Park off of the rocks and beaches where you can catch these Sharks at night.

For Salmon the news is great, just about all good surf beaches in the area have some good size Salmon. The pick of them all is Gunyah Beach where there are plenty of big Salmon to 4kg, there are schools of big fish spread out all along this area.

Port Lincoln

Squid reports have been better from the jetties, those that put in the time are finding a feed of Squid and the new Daiwa Squid jigs in white and orange seem to be some of the better colours. We haven’t heard of much else from the jetties but give the Whiting a go, there should be some around.

For boat fishers, Whiting are best along the North Shore with some fish to 45cm reported in the last few weeks, they should be spreading out into other areas within the bays now with the Proper, Spalding Cove and also around Boston Island holding some Whiting. Squid are around in modest numbers.

The Passage is still the place to be for Whiting with many great reports, from Carcase Rocks down to Taylors, Grindal and Thistle Island all have good Whiting fishing and there are some big ones in there also. Squid are at these areas so have a jig ready and you will also get Snook, Tommies and Red Mullet.

Offshore reports have only come from the bottom of the Passage with some Nannygai and Blue Morwong reported. Salmon fishing has been excellent in the National Park with schools spread out right along the Sleaford Coast, there are some good Salmon here up to 4kg and the average size is 3-3.5kg much better than years gone by. Lure fishing has been one of the best ways to catch the Salmon with the Arma Twist lures, Shimano Wonder Fall and Jabbers Moxie Metal jigs all working very well.

Tumby Bay

Squid have been patchy but there are some areas south of Tumby Bay where there are good numbers. Around town there’s been many reports that they are very scarce, but the Whiting are in great numbers and also good sized fish can be caught. Garfish are also very hard to find but Snook are there and not too hard to find.

Out at the Group there’s some big Whiting up to 55cm and plenty of smaller ones in the right eating size around the 36-38cm. Snook and some big Trevally are also out there. A few Salmon can also be caught around some of the islands and there are Squid there for those putting in the time for them.

Further north Port Neill does have some patches of Whiting and Squid, you just need to have a look around.
