There’s been a bit of decent weather this week but unfortunately reports have been much slower. There is Salmon just about everywhere all along the coast from the Port Lincoln National Park to Fowlers in the surf beaches, School Sharks and Whiting from a number of areas but not much else. This is the slowest month of year with not a lot of fishing participation, but if you are able to get out there, the fishing is great.
Here’s what has been biting over the last week.
Elliston
Pretty much only had Salmon reports from the Elliston with Talia beach one of the best. There are 5kg fish here but most of the fish we have heard of are in the 2-3.5kg range. There can be stacks of them and some groups have been catching well over 100 fish in a session if you get the right conditions.
Locks Well is also fishing really well with big numbers of fish here also and the same with Sheringa. There are some good fish here also 3kg and better. Both baits and lures have been working. The best lures have been the Buku Flutter Bombs, Arma Flash Harrys and Jackson Metal Effects. School Sharks can also be caught at Sheringa and beaches around Streaky Bay.
Coffin Bay
There’s a handful of Whiting within the bays, a few Tommies and Salmon Trout, not much else has been reported. Farm Beach is great for Whiting with good reports again this week. The Sandhills has been a great spot and most other areas also have good numbers of fish. The Z-Man worms and Vexed Mirco Meat jigs along with Prawns, Squid or Cockles have been the way to go for the Whiting. There’s a few nice Tommies and Salmon Trout around as well. The odd Flathead can also be caught on the Whiting grounds.
In the deeper water there’s always the chance of a Gummy or School Shark, there is plenty around if you burley up for them. School Sharks can also be caught off of the rock areas between Frenchman’s and Mount Drummond late afternoon and into the night.
For Salmon there’s been really good reports at Greenly and Convention beaches and to a lesser extent Gunyah and Almonta beach have also been quite good.
Port Lincoln
Boat fishers have been finding Whiting along the North Shore, a few in the Proper and some around Boston Island. The Whiting are in better numbers down the Passage with Taylors one of the better areas. Good reports have also come from Thistle, Mclarens and Carcase Rocks and there are some Gummy Sharks around and generally they have been good ones. There are also some good patches of Snook around Taylors Island and Taylors Landing.
Offshore reports have been very quiet this week, but if you get the chance to get there should be some great fishing on offer. For Salmon the Sleaford coast is alive with some monster schools of Salmon from Millers Hole to the Salmon Hole which had schools everywhere over the weekend with fish size 2-3kg, lures have been the way to go. There have also been some big Bronze Whaler Sharks following the Salmon.
Tumby Bay/Port Neill/ Arno Bay
Really only Whiting and Snook reported from these areas. The Group does have some good fishing but reports are mostly limited. Hopefully next week things are better.
