Fishing Report – Wednesday 8th April 2026

With Easter done and dusted we can get ready for school holidays which starts this weekend. The fishing is always good at this time of year, and we are spoilt for choices right now with many fish species on the bite.

With much to report we’ll get straight into it and here’s what has been biting over the past week.

Elliston

There’s been some good mixed reports from the Elliston area with plenty of different fish to catch. Salmon can be found from the surf beaches in the area with Locks Well and Sheringa two of the more reliable beaches in the area.

Offshore fishing has also been popular with the calmer weather and Nannygai and Blue Morwong topped the list of fish being caught on the offshore reefs. Gummy and School Sharks are also there out on the reefs. Many of the inshore areas for land based and boat fishers have Whiting, Snook, big Tommies and a few Flathead. Walkers Rock is a great area for Flathead.

Up the coast towards Streaky the offshore fishing is said to be excellent for Nannygai, Blue Morwong and Sharks. Vexed Bottom Meat jigs have been excellent for this kind of fishing. In closer Whiting fishing is pretty good on the inshore grounds.

Further up the coast the surf fishing has been very consistent, Mulloway, Gummy and Bronze Whaler Sharks and also Salmon are very consistent on the beaches past Fowlers Bay. It is well worth a trip here before the weather starts to get really cold.

Coffin Bay

It was very good fishing here over the weekend and in the bays there’s plenty on offer,  Whiting top the list but there’s some ripper Flathead, Salmon Trout, Tommies, Garfish, Snook and Gummy Sharks have been high on the list for many fishing in the bays. Land based and by boat all fishers should have got some decent fishing in. The Flathead have been reported right through out the whole system from right in town all the way out to Point Sir Isaac’s and also around to Frenchman’s and some of these fish have been reported to 65cm this week with plenty just shy of the 60cm. Soft plastics have been the way to go with the Arma Paddle Tails, Jackson Bone Baits and the Nomad soft plastics have been the way to go for the Flathead this week. Both boat and land based fishers have got in on the Flathead action.

Whiting fishing has been pretty good out at Farm beach with some good fish to 40cm caught over the weekend on the Vexed Micro Meat jigs, there are plenty of other fish out there as well including Salmon Trout, Tommies, Garfish, Snook and a few Squid also on the bite.

Offshore there’s been plenty of Nannygai out on the reefs and some good Blue Morwong, the Vexed Bottom Meat jigs have been the winner on the Nannygai but the Buku Flutter Bomb jigs will also catch plenty. Tuna are best at Rocky Island with a good school of Tuna reported out there and also out at Greenly Island you will find a few there to. Kingfish and Samson fish are also there.

For Salmon Almonta is still one of the better areas but have a look at Greenly, Convention and Mount Drummond as there are some decent sized Salmon at these areas.

Port Lincoln

There is still good numbers of big Crabs hanging around but they are thinning out and will be much harder to find in a few weeks, they can still be caught off of the town jetty. The jetties are also producing Squid, Garfish, Tommies, Salmon Trout, Whiting and Snook. The town jetty and the main wharf are the most productive areas.

There’s Yellowfin Whiting at North Shields and Louth Bay and some decent reports have come through in the last few weeks. Bait fishing is the go but there’s been a few caught on lures with the Daiwa Slippery Dog one of the best.

King George can be caught at Tulka off of the rocks along with a few Snook and Garfish and there’s rat Kingfish roaming around also.

Boat fishers have been finding Whiting, Snook, Garfish, Tommies and much better numbers of Squid throughout the bays. Orange jigs have been excellent including the Yamashita, Yo Zuri and Hayabusa any in those brands will get you Squid. Down the coast there no shortage Whiting at Taylors and Thistle Island, most fishers have reported very quick bag limits of big fish.

The offshore scene has been quite good with a good variety of fish on offer. Tuna are found at the Cabbage Patch only in small numbers but enough out there. Halco TNT and Napalm lures are the best for them. There’s some good-sized Samson fish there which can be jigged up on JT Jigs or they will take live baits. Nannygai and Blue Morwong can be found on the many reefs south of Port Lincoln.

For Salmon there’s good numbers of fish along the south coast which are now schooled up much closer to the shore and there are still some big Sharks on the schools but not as many as there were a month ago.

Tumby Bay

Off the jetty there’s been some Salmon Trout, Snook and Squid off of the jetty. Yellowfin Whiting have been active on the beaches around                Tumby, mostly all taken on baits like Prawns, Seaweed Worms or live Clickers and there are some good-sized fish here. Boat fishers are still catching the best fish at the Group with some more big Whiting reported again this week. Salmon, Snook, Garfish, Tommies and Squid can all be caught out at the Group as well. There are also some decent-sized Gummy Sharks around if you’re after something a bit different. Bolingbroke is great this time of the year for Whiting, Garfish, Snook and Squid and off of the beaches in the area there will be some big Flathead to chase.

Port Neill and Arno Bay

Yellowfin Whiting reports continue here this week with still plenty on the beaches and both baits and lures are working. There’s good Flathead north of Arno and most have been caught on plastics, this area holds some good fish. Garfish are best at Port Neill with the jetty and rock areas north and south of Port Neill holding some monsters. Boat fishers are finding some good Whiting, Snook, Garfish, Tommies and a few Squid at both areas.
