Fishing Report – Wednesday 8th October 2025

With the long weekend now behind us it was great to see plenty of people getting out there to catch a fish after a long hard winter which was made much more harder with the algal bloom that was meant to disappear.

Many areas that have been affected by the algal bloom over winter are seeing signs of fish returning. Whiting are in good numbers in many spots, Garfish seem to be returning and also Squid, it looks like their numbers are on the rebuild. Hopefully we will see things get back to normal much sooner.

Here’s what has been caught over the last week.

Elliston

Salmon fishing is still very good right now and all beaches do have Salmon. Sheringa and Talia have had the best sized fish. Reports are there of fish in the 4-5kg range at both these beaches. There are Gummy Sharks from Taila Beach also here and the odd good sized Flathead. The more sheltered shallower beaches in the area have a mixture of Tommies, Salmon Trout, Flathead, Mullet and Whiting and those using the new Z-Man soft plastic worms have caught some nice fish off of the beaches here.

Not much boat news from Elliston but further West at Venus, Streaky and Smoky bays there are Whiting, Tommies, Salmon Trout, Garfish and Squid and some of these areas are fishing very well.

Further west there were plenty that went in search of the mighty mulloway, no reports just yet but next week we should have heard what the fishing was like.

Coffin Bay

There’s quite a lot of Whiting around in the bays with some good numbers off of the rocks around the bays, there are plenty of Tommies and Salmon Trout. Snook are showing up and also some decent sized Garfish.

Farm Beach has been a very reliable Whiting spot for fish in the 32-36cm range, there has been plenty here most days with most areas producing fish. Vexed Micro Meat jigs have been hugely popular and the Z- Man worms are both catching plenty of fish. Garfish, Snook, Tommies, Salmon Trout, Flathead and Squid can all be caught out there as well. Gummies and School sharks can be caught in the deeper water areas and Gummies can be attracted in a bit closer with a good burley trail.

Offshore reports consisted of Nannygai for those that were able to get there when the weather allowed it and for Salmon Gunyah and Greenly beaches have been the most consistent but they can be found from just about all the good Salmon beaches in the area.

Port Lincoln

Better numbers of Squid have been reported from the jetties with most fishers able the catch a feed at least. The long awaited return of the new model Daiwa Nude Squid jigs have already been quite good on the Squid with the Mango Shrimp, Orange and Glow White colours some of the favourites so far. A few Whiting can be caught, Tommies and some decent sized Garfish also.

For boat fishers there eports are good for Whiting throughout the bays with Squid improving and there are even Blue Crabs showing up with one Whiting fisher catching some good ones on his Whiting line. Blue crabs coming in this early seems to happen regularly now but they don’t stay for too long. By November they thin out usually so if you want a few Crabs for feed it might be worth having a crack early while they are around. There are also some big Garfish around and this month is usually good for the big ones.

Down the Passage there’s Whiting and good ones from Carcase Rocks down to Taylors and then over at Thistle Island there’s some nice fish there. Squid and Snook are the other targets worth chasing in those areas.

For salmon there’s been plenty in the national park. It seems that there are Salmon along the entire Sleaford Bay area, lure fishing has been the best way to catch the Salmon when a school of fish is located with some of the best lures to use are the Daiwa Over There Stick baits, Arma Twist and the Samaki Rib Cage jigs in the green or orange colours.

Tumby Bay

Squid have been improving in the area with better numbers reported this week mostly from the inshore grounds and the Garfish are also improving. Port Neil and Arno Bay are also showing signs of the area coming good, there’s plenty of Whiting from the inshore grounds and also out at the Group where the fishing is pretty good right now. There’s some good sized Trevally, Snook, Salmon, Red Mullet and a few Snook here as well. Garfish are a little slow but there are some out there.
